What PDF Forms does
PDF Forms covers two jobs that usually come together. If your PDF already has fillable fields, such as an application or a registration sheet, vupdf reads them and shows them on the page preview where they actually sit, so you type into text boxes, tick checkboxes and choose from dropdowns, radio groups and list boxes in place.
If the PDF is a plain document with blank lines and empty boxes, you can place your own fields on it instead. From the right-hand panel you add text, date, checkbox, signature, multiple choice and list box fields, drag them into position, resize them and style the text. On download, every answer is written permanently into the pages, giving you a finished copy that looks the same in any reader.
How to use PDF Forms
- Upload your PDF; vupdf tells you how many fillable fields it found, or that it has none.
- Fill the existing fields directly on the page preview.
- To add a field, pick its type in the right-hand panel and click the spot on the page where it belongs.
- Drag the new field into place, pull its corner to resize it, and set its value or options in Field Settings.
- Review the Form Fields list, then click Fill and Download.
Features and options
- Fill fields where they appear
- Existing fields are drawn over the preview at their real positions. Fields the PDF does not tie to a page appear in a separate “Other fields” list, so none are skipped.
- Add fields to any PDF
- Place text, date (with a date picker), checkbox, signature, multiple choice and list box fields, turning a printed-style form into one you can complete on screen.
- Text styling
- Added text and date fields can use your choice of font, size, color, bold, italic and underline, so answers match the form or stand out clearly.
- Your own answer options
- Multiple choice and list box fields start with two sample options you can rename, extend or remove, up to eight per field. The selected answer is marked in the final file.
- A drawn signature
- The signature field opens a pad for drawing your signature, and you can re-sign before downloading. It suits everyday paperwork, not documents that require a qualified e-signature.
When it helps
- A school sends a fillable enrollment PDF, and you complete it on your laptop instead of printing and scanning.
- A rental application is a flat PDF with empty lines; you add text boxes, a date and your signature and return it the same day.
- A small business fills in a supplier’s order form, ticks the products needed and emails back a clean copy.
Tips and limits
- The downloaded file is flattened: answers become part of the page and can no longer be edited as fields. Keep the original if you might change an answer.
- For the same reason, this tool does not create a blank fillable form for others to complete.
- Password-protected PDFs need unlocking first with Remove Password, using the password you were given.
- Files up to 50 MB are accepted, with up to 200 new fields at a time. For free text, shapes or highlights, Edit PDF is the better fit.
Frequently asked questions
- Will the fields in my downloaded PDF still be fillable?
- No. Fill and Download writes all values into the page itself, so the result looks the same everywhere but is no longer an editable form. To change something, fill the original again.
- My PDF shows “no fillable fields”. Can I still use this tool?
- Yes. The form was simply saved without interactive fields. Add your own fields from the right-hand panel and place them on the blank lines.
- Why is a field listed under “Other fields”?
- Some PDFs do not record which page a field belongs to, so vupdf cannot place it on the preview. You can still type its value in that list.
- Can I change the options of a multiple choice field?
- Yes. Select the field and edit its options in Field Settings, then select the answer that applies.
- Is the signature I draw here legally binding?
- It is an image of your handwritten signature, which many routine forms accept. Documents that legally require a qualified electronic signature need a certified e-signature service.
