What Merge PDF does
Merge PDF joins several PDF files into one document. It suits anyone who has to hand in a single file built from separate pieces: a job application with a CV, cover letter and certificates, a monthly report assembled from department exports, or scanned receipts that arrived as one file per page.
What sets this merger apart is that it works at page level, not just file level. After you add your files, every page appears as a thumbnail you can drag into a new position, even between files, and any page you don't need can be dropped with a single click. Links, bookmarks and form fields from the originals are carried into the merged file, and you can ask for one bookmark per source file so the result is easy to navigate in any PDF reader.
How to use Merge PDF
- Drop your PDFs into the upload area or click it to choose them; you can add more later with the Add files button.
- Put the files in the right order with the arrows, or use Sort A–Z if your files are named in sequence.
- Drag individual page thumbnails to fine-tune the order, and press the × on any page you want to leave out.
- If a file is password protected, type its password in the field that appears next to it.
- Turn on “Add a bookmark for each file” if you want a clickable table of contents in the result.
- Click Merge PDFs and download the combined document.
Features and options
- Page-level reordering
- Every page of every file is shown as a card in one grid. You can move a page from the third file between two pages of the first, which saves a separate trip to an editor when one page is in the wrong place.
- Leave pages out while merging
- Blank scan pages, duplicate covers or outdated appendices can be removed before the merge. A removed page can be brought back with Undo, so you can experiment safely.
- One bookmark per file
- With this option each source file becomes a top-level bookmark named after the file, and its own bookmarks are nested underneath. Readers can jump straight to “Invoice March” or “Contract appendix” instead of scrolling.
- Links and form fields are kept
- Internal links, existing bookmarks and fillable form fields travel with their pages. Shared fonts and images are written into the output only once, which keeps the merged file from growing needlessly.
When it helps
- A student combines a title page exported from Word, the main thesis PDF and a scanned signed declaration into the single file the university portal accepts.
- An accountant receives twelve monthly bank statements and merges them into one yearly file, with a bookmark for each month.
- A job seeker puts the cover letter first, the CV second and the diploma scans last, dropping the blank back sides the scanner produced.
Tips and limits
- You can merge up to 25 files of at most 50 MB each, with a combined maximum of 150 MB and 600 pages in the result.
- Merging does not shrink anything; if the combined file is too large for email, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.
- Only PDF files can be merged here. Convert images with JPG to PDF or Office documents with Word to PDF first, then merge the results.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I take just a few pages from one of the files?
- Yes. After uploading, remove the pages you don't want with the × on each thumbnail. Only the remaining pages end up in the merged PDF.
- Will the bookmarks of my original files survive?
- Yes, existing bookmarks are carried over. If you enable a bookmark for each file, the original bookmarks are grouped under that file’s entry instead of sitting side by side.
- What happens to fillable forms when I merge them?
- Form fields are copied along with their pages, so the merged file can still be filled in. It is a good idea to check the result if two forms use identical field names.
- One of my files shows “Could not be read”. What can I do?
- The file is probably damaged or not a real PDF. Try opening it with Repair PDF first, then merge the repaired copy.
- Are my files stored after the merge?
- The files are processed on vupdf’s own servers only to build the merged PDF and are deleted right after you receive it. No account is required and nothing is used for AI training.
