vupdf is a free toolkit for everyday PDF jobs (merging, splitting, compressing, converting, protecting, signing) that you can use straight from your browser, without signing up.

There is no account to create, no card details to enter and no app to install: pick your file, check the settings and download the result in a few seconds. The interface is available in 15 languages and is designed to work as comfortably on a phone as on a desktop.

What you can do

The site has 29 tools. You can merge, split, rotate and crop pages and add watermarks and page numbers. You can turn Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML and images into PDF, and PDFs into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG and Markdown. You can encrypt documents, unlock files whose password you know, redact sensitive information, make scanned pages searchable with OCR, sign PDFs and compare two versions. The QR code and barcode generators run entirely in your browser.

How it works

Tools that process files run on our own servers with software we operate ourselves: pdf-lib and PDF.js for PDF work, LibreOffice for office conversions, Tesseract OCR for text recognition and a headless Chromium browser for turning web pages into PDF. We do not send your files to an external AI service or to any other company. We test every tool with real documents and keep fixing cases that come out wrong or incomplete, and the text under each tool tries to say plainly what it can and cannot do.

What happens to your files

Files you upload are processed only to perform the task you asked for, and are deleted from the server automatically once the job is done and the result has been delivered to you. We do not look at, keep or use your files to train AI. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

How we stay free

vupdf is funded by advertising; users are never charged and there is no paid plan. We only show ads on content pages (the home page, the guides and the explanations under each tool); there are no ads on the screens where you upload, edit and download your files. Advertising cookies and personalised ads are only used with your consent.
